Collection: American Bison | Limited Edition Black and White Photography

This collection of fine art black and white photographs features bison and buffalo in the American west. Bison are a resilient and iconic species of the American Great Plains. Bison are incredible powerful animals, and it is an absolute honor to be able to photograph them.

Bison often represent freedom, strength, grit, and self-determination. At one point, North America was home to roughly 30-60 million bison, but there numbers dwindled to a mere 500 in the early 20th century. Their numbers have drastically rebounded from their all time low.

In all of our photographs, we strive to merge the gritty American West, with a modern aesthetic. Although we cannot photograph wild bison in a studio, we strive to bring a studio environment to them. We often use interesting weather to create studio like environments in the wild. Fog, snow, and even frost can create clean crisp backdrops that allow the bison to be the sole focus of the photograph. 

We intentionally use very high ISOs to create the appearance of film grain, and add texture and warmth to each image. These images are equal parts modern and rustic, and were created with modern interior design in mind. Images in this series are for sale in small, fine art editions of 35 for prints 24x36 and over, and editions of 100 for prints 20x30 and under. Prints come on museum grade photographic paper for superior fade resistance.
